Microsoft lost the API war, or haven’t they?

Last sunday, Joel Spolsky wrote an article where he stated that Microsoft lost the API war. I read it and it sounded believable, although I still wasn’t completely convinced. Then, today, I saw a blog entry by Robert McLaws who gave 7 reasons Microsoft hasn’t lost the war. If you read Joels article, you should read Roberts article as well. They’re both interesting reads and in my opinion the truth is (as always) somewhere in the middle.

XMPP (Jabber) & RSS feeds

How could I have missed this? Sure, I haven’t been following Jabber closely for a while now, but this is really interesting. Jabber has a Publisher/Subscriber (PubSub) JEP (Jabber Extension Protocol) and there is already a site using that JEP to give you RSS/ATOM-feeds and Newsgroups in your Jabber client. How cool is that? You basically get an IM when a weblog has been updated and you can then view it inside your IM client.
In this document they even describe how they do it. Very interesting.

End-user reviews of RSS reader software

On his informative site for new RSS users, Dave Winer proposed the readers of his site to start writing reviews of the reader programs they use. The idea is that users will have a much more useful perspective for potential users then some marketing guy or lead-programmer who writes up a feature list for his product. I think this is a very good idea. And I urge everyone who wants to, to write a review for his favorite reader.

New layout, new engine even

The last big update on my website was when I changed blogging engines from b2 to bBlog. But, he bBlog-engine gave me some troubles, so when I did get it running, I wasn’t really keen on changing the default layout. In the end I didn’t even like bBlog very much.
So, after a few months of the horrible default bBlog layout, I decided to change it. And with the help of my girlfriend (who works as a desktop publisher) I was able to make a decent layout. She made the DigiWar-banner and with (a lot of) her help I was able to create the two other graphics used on this site (aside from the smileys and the buttons). So thank you my love.
But, when the lay-out was 60% done, I decided to switch blogging-engines again. This time I wanted to try WordPress. It seemed good to me. And so far, it has been good to me. I love it.
So here it is. A new layout and a new engine. Now it’s late. My girlfriend has been asleep for hours and I’m tired as well. Keep on blogging people!

Q - “Why do I want an RSS feed for my website?”

Dave Winer has a very interesting blog-entry up on his new RSS for newbies website. He has arguments for the webmaster that still wonders if RSS would be a benefit, or a loss of traffic/income. If you are a webmaster and need convincing RSS feeds are good for your site, read the entry.
